My Kawarau Bridge Bungy Jump

Christmas Eve 2014 in Queenstown, New Zealand.

Emily told me to go jump off a bridge, so I did.
43 metres above the glistening blue waters of the Kawarau river I perched on a wooden ledge – a towel tied around my ankles with a flexible cord dangling from it and a guy stood behind me telling me to jump. This wasn’t some sick nightmare, I’d actually paid to be here. And despite what my stomach was telling me, I was about to jump.
I took my last look down, the water looked so inviting, but I’m sure there were better ways to go for a dip in it. Nethertheless, I jumped. I had wanted to scream “YIPPIE KAI YAY” or yell out a manly roar, but in the moment all I did was fall – which came very naturally, I might add.
The water was hitting my hands before I knew it, cold and refreshing, but most importantly – I’d made it. I swung back up again, being tossed around by physics like a rag doll in a washing machine – and I loved every second of it. The smiles were all real.
I finally got into the support boat, and it was to be another 5 minutes before my heartbeat would return to its resting pace. Another New Zealand memory I won’t forget in a hurry.

Favourite Photos From 2014

Aside from the obvious trip to New Zealand, 2014 was another great year for travelling. Barcelona started things off in January, then Nice, Hannover, Paris and Amsterdam. So many other amazing places in the UK such as Llangollen, Canterbury, Cardiff and Bridgenorth to name just a few. 2015 might have to be a bit more low key. Click on any of the photos to get a closer look.

The Other Side Of The World

I’ve finally got around to putting up some of the more epic photos from Emily and I’s New Zealand trip. These photos only scratch the surface of what we saw, but at least it gives you an idea of what the other side of the world looks like. Take time to read the description on each photograph for the full story.

New Zealand Trip Route

I’m still trawling through the photos from our month-long travels through New Zealand, but in the mean time I’ve plotted out our route so you can oggle at where we went and how far we drove!

The Journey Continues…

2014 has been a good year for travelling abroad!

January – Barcelona, Spain

barcelona
Spending a weekend visiting Alex with Adam. Lots of sangria and a great walk up some big hills to castles and (more) art.

May – Nice, France

nice
A long weekend to the south of France. To the beach, roller-blading along the promenade, and…

May – Monaco, France

monaco
Technically a separate country… well separate state… principality.. whatever. The important thing is I saw two Bugatti Veyrons in about as many hours… TWO! This place was mental.

June – Hannover, Germany

hannover
A visit to the wonderful Sophie Jones in Germany. Some great countryside, lots of tourist fun and a random night out watching the World Cup.

September – Amsterdam, Netherlands

amsterdam
Since it was pretty much everyone’s birthday at the same time, this was a crazy little weekend with a large group of us. Tandems, bagels, Van Gogh… good times :)

November – Paris, France

paris
My first international conference was also a good excuse to spend a few more days exploring the beautiful French capital. Even though this was far from my first time there I saw plenty of new things, including the catacombs, which was an experience to say the least.

The Next Adventure

Not content with that fairly well-rounded list of places, Emily and I are about to head off for a trip long in the making. We’re going somewhere I’ve been so excited to visit for as long as I can remember, and this Friday we’re actually going. New Zealand. For a month. We have a campervan hired, trips down caves planned, bungee jumping, rafting, hiking up volcanoes, kayaking, geysers, Lord of the Rings places… OH MY GOD I’M SO EXCITED I CAN’T EVEN.

I’ll be updating my Facebook, Instagram, twitter with things as we go on our travels, but don’t expect too many blog posts for the next month. But do expect a lot of photos and videos in January!

Have a great Christmas and new year!
